Shooting in FL

As you have undoubtedly heard, a young black boy was shot and killed by a guy named George Zimmerman. The problem is, in accordance with FL law, you have the capability to protect yourself if you feel threatened, including shooting, and in any case an on the scene officer can determine the threat. Generally, in FL, this decision on self defense is left up to a judge, but that is not mandated. If we are angry at the guy who shot the boy, it is understood, if we're angry with the police, I'm not sure why? Could they be wrong on self-defense? Sure, and this is why a court would review these actions - but as usual in America - we immediately over-react and assume someone is intentionally screwing someone over. Is the death of the boy a tragedy, absolutely, however we need to let justice take its course and not jump in front of the train. And one thing, on a personal note, I wish the Sharpton-Machine would understand that this is not a white guy shooting a black kid, in fact, Zimme...

Oil Industry puts out a plan for lower prices.

Well you knew this was coming, the industry most hated in America is proposing a plan to lower costs of their product. So right off the bat I'm suspect of anything in this plan simply because frankly, what business owner wants to make their product less costly in turn limiting their profit? That said, lets assume the gas/oil companies really do wish to refine, pardon the pun, how they manage their industry. Oil Bid Their proposal included three major factors: keeping tax cuts in place, increasing permitting to drill for oil and changes in stringent EPA regulations on refining fuel. All in all, no big shock. Americans, well educated ones that is, have known for a long time that America has untapped oil reserves and that the EPA is essentially a medieval group of regulators that make decisions for the government without any true government oversight. Actually, I digress, it isn't entirely the EPA, it is a composition of EPA regulators and private (supposedly) environmental grou...

Women overtaking Men in the future as "Breadwinners"

I saw a story this morning on the news talking about women overtaking men in the workplace, I have to say, I don't care. I believe you should be judged on merit not sex, race or religion. That said, if the woman is a better choice for a job, choose her. However, it isn't that cut and dry like many things in America. America has a history of interfering with private sectors to encourage certain social or cultural events. One thing you'd notice if you worked in the public sector, more and more women are promoted than men. That is a statistical fact when you equalize the ratios of men to women. What women's groups have long argued is "yes we make up more promotions but men get higher promotions". Well isn't most of this simple mathematics or time? As I look around I find the majority of men in the public sector were hired long before the women, though the women made it faster up the promotions ladder due to the increase in female over male promotion bias in G...
