Affirmative Action
AA was essential and necessary for decades to make up for horrible discriminations of the past and to enforce equal opportunity for all Americans. Today however this has been bastardized from opportunity to success. Now Americans are told that everyone should receive the same results for unequal work. You see it initially in schools as children are manipulated statistically instead of looking towards communal factors. Instead of saying "why are these children not excelling, could it be because of home life factors" we say "the schools are discriminatory in their practices". America has a major problem with addressing what causing inequality today, it is not the color of the skin, but the composition of the home. When one child comes from a stable house and is bound by love and authority, they will tend to be far more responsive to a teaching environment; and on the same coin if a child has no direction or stability at home, they are likely to fail in a structured institution. This is in no way the 'fault' of the school system, but it is generally pointed to as a failing point and a need for more recognition of 'minority' students.
This bastardization of AA takes place at the University level next, where schools produce results of student body based on race, and make decisions based on the same. To watch a white child be denied an opportunity because they are not black should be just as offensive as a black student being denied the same.
And there is also a blending of the ideals of AA with the terms stereotyping or profiling. AA is nothing more than a profiling method based on skin tone. Profiling in and of itself is a great action - and statistically accurate usually. This is something folks don't like to hear but the simplicity of analysis shows it to work - if a person fits a certain look, say 6'6" and 320lbs, there is no point in questioning someone who is 5'5" and 110lbs. But for some reason profiling is horrific but AA is not. Simply unbelievable.
At the end of the day, if we truly wish for America to be glorious, people must make it on their own merit. It is really that simple.
