Unbelievable Irony and Saddening Reality
Unbelievable Irony, that is the only term that can define Charlie Rangel discussing debt issues in Congress. This is a man that was thrown off a committee because of his fraudulent activity when it comes to finances. This is a man who represents a district that doesn't seem to care that its man on the hill is a liar. Unbelievable. It really is no wonder that America is a financially screwed as it is. People like this claiming to have the best interests of a Nation at heart, it is a wonder we still have a currency.
Social Security
He comments on Social Security, a defunct system of Liberal love to make up for those who couldn't figure out how to save for themselves after the Great Depression. What he doesn't mention is the fact, FACT, that Social Security is in its death throws and will be taking what remains of the US economy with it. Social programs, when added together, cost roughly the same as the entire 850B defense budget. Bet you didn't know that, because according to Congress the Defense budget is the absurd element.
Social Security should be optional, it should be a program that a worker elects to participate in because they don't want to take the time to invest for their own future. It is this forced, mass-participation, that is killing America. This assumption that just under 500 people know what is best for 300 million only works when the participants actually care about America more than themselves.
Mortgage Industry
Congress has failed again with the current housing crisis. In classic Liberal form they moved two years ago to help 'the poor, or middle-class', what they should have done was help those who were financially secure prior to the crash. Had they focused more on those who paid their bills, had 680+ credit scores and steady jobs, they would have been funding the very heart of America. As you can see by the current 9.2% unemployment, those same individuals that should have been helped could have been starting businesses and hiring people. America will not turn this around until it realizes that the heartbeat of this Country is small business. A simple question "when is the last time you were hired by a poor person?" Your answer will be NEVER. So as we march forward, hating the 'rich'..which by the way is apparently anyone who makes more that the collective 'you'...we will continue to fail. This is why Obama has no plan out, because he insists that if the 'rich' just paid more it would all be OK. If he wanted to impact America, he would change the tax code to a flat tax system, but that will never happen.
Conclusion
America is on a bad trajectory, but the good news is that it can be fixed. The 'hard' choices Congress talks about, aren't hard. They are quite simple. The problem is that they aren't the same old choices Congress is use to debating. The focus needs to be on 1) changing the overall tax structure of America 2) assisting the upper-middle class with their mortgage issues to prevent default at the higher level 3) ending Social Security as a mandatory system. There, I didn't even touch on healthcare.
