Raising Tobacco Taxes

r Raising Tobacco Taxes Congress and Legislatures around the USA, lets try to learn from history. Do not tie your tax survival on a product that people may or may not use with regularity. As states saw and DOT saw with the gas crisis, taxing a commodity that can fluctuate is not smart. In 2008-2009 when drivers cut back on miles driven the gas tax dropped tremendously and all of the sudden there were gaps and debts. Why, because the tax was tied directly to something that is far from concrete. This is the exact same event as a tobacco tax. This tax is already insanely high, to the point it should almost be called an 'internal tariff'. There is a very clear, and very simple way to close budget gaps. FLAT TAX or Federal purchasing tax. Stop thinking about involved and confusing ways of taxing citizens. Simply have one Federal Government flat tax rate on everything that is purchased, aside from food. Revenues would overflow and gaps in states would be gone as there would be more t...

Tiger Woods

Honestly, who gives a crap about this? Remove his name from this story and let me know if you stop the air waves to hear about this: DETROIT, Michigan - Last night Mr. Jones wrecked his Cadillac in a tree 20 feet from his driveway. The Police investigating the accident could not get an immediate response from Mr. Jones but did speak with his wife who said it was simply an 'accident'. (Update 1) DETROIT, Michigan - Mr. Jones, involved in last weeks accident, has been rumored to have been having an affair and it was the recognition of this affair that allegedly caused his wife to chase him a golf club, causing his crash. (Update 2) DETROIT, Michigan - Mr. Jones has made a statement today stating that he was at fault for his accident and there was no domestic violence issue. Cafferty File: Palin doesn't want Media Coverage

Cafferty File: Tell Jack how you really feel Blog Archive - Why doesn't Palin want news media to cover some of her speeches? - Blogs from CNN.com Gee I wonder why, because the liberal media types are a bunch of clowns that chose a communist organizer over a Governor as a person with clout. Then made fun of her, gee can't imagine why she doesn't want you sleaze balls there.

Activist boards Japanese whaling ship - CNN.com These Japanese sailors should shoot your dumb @ss. Why don't you stop harassing workers and go find something to do with your life. Who provides the funds for these ops anyway?

Profiling, sorry it works.

Judge Finds Grounds to Sanction Arizona Sheriff's Office I can't back Sheriff Joe more. Please, please, show me the record of overturned convictions in his county through the use of profiling. The man is doing his job. The man is elected by the people of his county, not appointed as this judge is or as council members are. He is doing his job, if that breaks your PC liberal heart, so be it. I wish we had more men like him.

Taliban Sniper Teams Attack U.S. Troops

Taliban Sniper Teams Attack U.S., Afghan Troops - Afghanistan | Map | War - FOXNews.com America needs to be ready, ready for casualties and civilian loses. For too long we (we being those confused souls in the USA) have viewed war as something where only the other guy dies. That just isn't true. When you are attempting to sweep a town the safest way to do it is artillery and air power, the most dangerous way is boots on the ground. However, leaders fear that too many casualties of civilians will cause a PR problem, if we wanted to save the lives of our soldiers we would not be overwhelmingly concerned with that. Sniper teams are intense and very hard to remove, just ask the Germans in Stalingrad how annoying and victorious sniper teams can make a force. While I don't wish for civilian loss of life, I want our troops as safe as can be and victory on our side.

What’s wrong with America in 2010, start with 1940?

What’s wrong with America in 2010, start with 1940? America, the once spectacular land of the free and home of the brave, finds herself in a predicament. In an effort to make every citizens “pursuit of happiness” a reality, she lost her way. Generations Ago America in the last twenty years, starting roughly around the late 80’s, decided times were simply too tough. Coming out of the 1970s with revolutions around the world, embargos, oil shortages, domestic issues, wars and general global conflict America entered the 1980’s hoping for something better, that wasn’t to happen quickly. Entering the eighties America found herself in dire need of drive and revenue. The seventies brought social programs at home and wars beyond our borders. America was brought down a notch globally when a couple of college kids helped by a few hundred radicals took over an American embassy, something that had been unthinkable in the past. And the following failed rescue attempts and hostage holdouts with a l...

Megan McCain's comments about Tea Parties

This is truly a girl who knows nothing about what the Tea Parties are about. She is an embarrassment to her generation and youth around the world with her political commentary. She shouldn't assume that because her father is a career politician that she somehow knows more than others when it comes to politics. She also seems to view herself as 'elite' in her knowledge. If she ever had an independent thought, I'd be shocked. I would like to ask Megan if she has ever actually attended a Tea Party event or talked to people who have. She'd come to find that a large percentage of those involved are 30 or younger, not 60 and older as she pretends to claim. It is really sad to see individuals used as pawns like this. A wise person once told me; new generations must repeat the mistakes of the old because no matter how clearly you are taught, people thrive on personal experience and personal loss. This is apparently true for my generation and the following. I remember my da...

Obama comments on Toyota Recalls

Hoping for Change in Toyota Pres. Obama asked the Automobile industry to act faster in safety recalls. And said there would be some level of investigation and that their brands are at stake. Remember the free market, where consumers simply made these choices without words "from on high". Think back to the 1960's and the book "Unsafe at Any Speed" by Ralph Nader. The government doesn't need to get involved unless a suit is drawn against the manufacturer, until that occurs there is no branch of government for Automobile Oversight and Compliance. There is NHTSA, and they are the ones that drive home the recalls on the auto industry. Obama needs to stick to being Commander and Chief, not CEO of business. Obama Nader

Dirty bomb dropped on New York City from the sky.

No that isn't a new concept, it actually was something the Nazis were close to doing in 1944. That's right, 66 years ago. This is a solid reason for why America must, must, lead in innovation. Nazis

Don't be mean to Toyota

Please don't The Government now once you to not bash Toyota in the media because it could hurt jobs, forget the fact that you could die in the car. What the hell is going on here? The government needs to get back in the job of governing and out of the job of running businesses. How dare you ask your media to not report problems because you feel they hurt the economy, this isn't Communism and this isn't Venezuela!

Snow days for most of the mid-atlantic states

For the third time in less than 60 days there has been a significant (10" or better) snow event in the Mid-Atlantic. This has a lot of folks saying "yeah, global warming is garbage". Well, not necessarily. Storms and weather events in general are caused by many things but some of the higher contributors are jet streams (winds) and currents (water tides). These two components are constantly changing and modifying but some of this transition could, could, be the result of global warming. The idea here would be that as ice melts it produces water (yeah, I know you know) and this water is generally pure or lacking salinity. Now, push thousands of gallons of fresh water into a salt water body and what do you get, a change in current pattern. Why you ask, well the answer is relatively easy. You can do an experiment for yourself with water temperature. Get a gallon of ice cold water, put a thermometer in it, now add a couple cups of salt, you'll see the temp drop even lower...

"I'll meet the GOP halfway on healthcare" - Obama

Mr. President, it is not the GOP that is your problem. You have had a supermajority for over a year in congress. Your problem, sir, is your own party. Your internal split between Democrats and Progressives that ride along the Democratic ticket. You have had the votes needed to pass anything you want, and still it hasn't passed. Why is that? Republicans could simply have not shown up to anything this year and you would still have had enough votes. Please stop pretending and posturing for the public that it is the Republicans that are giving you such trouble, it isn't. Your own party does not follow your words and why? Because Progressives (those who want entire governmental control) are bashing their heads with Democrats. The media, for the most part, refuses to acknowledge that your problem, sir, is your own party. It isn't Republicans or "Tea Party" rallies, it isn't Southerners or Corporate tycoons, it is your own party sir. The first step to solving any pr...

Unemployment taxes go up for business

Link Wonderful, at a time when everyone is struggling and we're attempting to grow jobs the wonderful government does what, raises taxes on businesses. Again this social welfare state takes over making it nearly impossible to get out of anything without government involvement. Once again we will make someone else flip the bill for others because the government is the king of all mismanagement of funds. The government is acting like a meth addict who keeps saying 'just give me a little more and it will be alright' well, as with the meth addict, it will not be alright. You can not continue to tax, tax, tax your way out of problems. That is exactly what caused the American Revolution from England in 1776. A state can not and should not go down the road of feeling as though it can 'at will' tax companies because 'they aren't citizens'. They are OWNED by citizens, they are managed by CITIZENS and they are in fact..CITIZENS. The same group that will raise une...

How the mortgage bailout has simply lengthened a recession.

Modify it baby. The Obama administration loves to tell you how bailouts and mortgage modifications have stabilized a paralyzed industry. This is simply not true. Throughout history it has been proven that only truth can set you free, and this applies to finance as well. When Obama and the Sec. of the Treasury decided to prop up housing by creating special loans and incentives for less than reputable buyers, they have only lengthened the amount of time it will take for a market correction. Because once again, there are false positives. The housing industry has not settled, it has simply been buffered. These are not one in the same. Any real estate agent worth their merit will tell you that there are cyclical market fluctuations. Dabbling in the system, as the government did with Fannie/Freddie (giving less desirables loans to buy homes). with government regulations and quotas simply makes the system inoperable. All markets fluctuate. That is how bad assest and losses are weeded out. You...

AFC is done and thoughts on the Saints

The AFC is not the great powerhouse of the NFL that it once was. It use to be, in the days of the Patriots and Steelers, that the NFL season would always conclude with an AFC win for the Lombardi trophy. Not so much now. In 2010 there were at least 5 teams in the NFC that could dismantle the best from the AFC. That is unusual. Seems the tide has shifted. As for the latest SB champs, the NO Saints. Well what can I say, I guess I like Drew Brees? Personally I hate the city of New Orleans, in my trips there it has always been a colossal dump full of drunks, trash and prostitutes. Maybe I was in the wrong town? Then a Hurricane comes 5 years ago and all the sudden everyone loves New Orleans, whatever I guess. So on to football. The Saints have to be the first team in NFL history to win a trophy without having a defense. Maybe it is time to throw out all those "Defense Wins Championships" t-shirts. Drew played an outstanding game last night, he is truly a champion. I am very happy...
