Syria

The things I think I think about Syria: 1) it is a nation, with a government and a standing army 2) it has every right to run its nation the way it wishes, however, the 'world' has every right to do no business with that nation 3) it is killing its people in a civil war, not unlike the United States, France, Spain, England and others have done in their pasts.

So I'm wondering why the US would consider "arming" Syrian rebels to fight the governments Army? Isn't that essentially a mercenary style declaration of war without having to involve Congress or actually 'declare' war? Guess I missed something in history where the world decided that as long as your troops weren't fighting directly, it wasn't a war. Secondly this theory that Countries can call for other Countries leaders to step down. I'm sorry but when did the world elect the leader? They didn't, so that said, get out of another nations business. There are no 'world police' because we all don't agree on the rules of the world..which is a good thing.

Now reporters getting killed in Syria, I'm sorry if I don't have some considerable cry over this. Let me get it straight, you lived in a nation not at war, choose to go to a country at war, go to the front-line..not to fight or assist..but to 'report for money'. Not sure why this is viewed as at all noble, it isn't. The common phrase of bringing you the story from the front-line, plays well when a country isn't really killing people.

Syria was once a "property" of France, as in most of history all problems can be traced to a handful of countries: England, France, Spain & the Netherlands. Almost anything bad currently, or in history when it comes to independence and civil uprising is a result of one of these groups invading and controlling lands that were in no way geographically theirs. Syria is essentially 72,000 sq miles in space with over 22 million people or 305 people per square mile. To put this in real number, one GBU-43 MOAB from the United States (one of our largest bombs) has a blast diameter of 600 meters or close to 40% of a square mile, estimate 122 civilians killed every time we drop one. Not to say we would, but to give you an idea of what is possible - you could always figure one of the US nuclear warheads has a rough kill diameter of 40 sq miles.

Point being, Syria is in a Civil War..much like many nations have done. In a civil war, people are slaughtered on both sides..that is why you don't want war in the first place. What would the US history books have written in Spain decided to support the south or "rebels" in the US civil war and crushed the Union troops? Food for thought.
