Arrrrr, Pirates.
So Somali Terrorists, oh sorry Pirates..Libby's like to make you think of Jack Sparrow, took over a US flagged ship. This is the first time this has occurred in over two hundred (200) years. In fact, this hasn't happened since Thomas Jefferson enacted the Marine Corps in 1801 to face pirates off Tripoli (oh, yeah..Islamic Fundamentalists..the US's first "global" conflict). It is also important to remember, Jefferson attempted to form a coalition of nations, France led the charge "not" to get involved.
Makes you wonder why the terrorists felt they could attack a US flagged ship? Think about this there were over 100 hijacking by sea off the Somali coast in 2008 leading to over 80M in ransom paid, none of which was a US flagged vessel. Now, for the first time a US flagged ship was attacked and boarded. What is generally not being talked up is that the 20 US citizens on board fought off the pirates after hiding in the steering bay of the vessel. Once they clashed with the terrorists they actually captured one! And in fact were working out a 'prisoner' swap to get their captain back. In the process, the remaining terrorist jumped on a 28' life boat and headed off with the Captain (however the ship was put back under US control by US citizens on board can't think of a single other nation that has accomplished that).
Maybe we did learn a little something about self-reliance from Sep 11 2001. Good. Now, we need to take immediate and ultimate action on these terrorists. And by that I mean, death. They need killed almost as a symbol. To show that "you take a US flagged ship, we kill you", simple as that. Now Sec of State Clinton had some "harsh" words for the terrorists (of course calling them Pirates) but, in usual Clinton-esque Liberal fashion said the 'world' needed to take action. Sorry but, F the world. The US needs to take action. It is OUR ship in international waters, game on..enough said. So lets see where this takes us.
