Gun Laws in the US
Gun laws in the United States make little if any sense. Some how individuals have reasoned in their minds that if there were no guns, there would be no murder. Or some level of that logic. However that is simply, patently, false.
Human psychology and makeup dictates that humans, by nature, are aggressive creatures. Humans are also thinking, and persistent creatures. What that means is that if a person really wants to do something, they'll find a way to accomplish it. You can find this in a two year old child. If a child is walking along hitting the family pet with a plastic bat and you remove the bat and tell the child "don't hit the dog", next thing you'll see is the child with a broom handle hitting the dog, "don't hit the dog" you say as you take away the broom, five minutes later the child will hit the dog with a brush and so on and so forth. The moral is, the child 'wants' to hit the dog with something, the child will find the tool. Adults are no different. The trick here is finding out why the child wants to hit the dog and working on that aspect, not the means to the end.
The reason we focus on gun laws is simple, they're easy, they're in the open and they seem at first glance 'simple'. However as time has told, they do nothing. My simple retort to anyone who says "we need stronger gun laws" or "we need to register guns" is this, "is MURDER illegal?". The answer "yes". Well then, the individual committing the crime has already broken the law, what exactly would a gun law aid in?
Joe the Murder wants to kill 2 people, you think a 'gun law' is going to stop that? There is one very simple and scary truth that the US has a hard time dealing with, if a person is willing to trade their life for yours your only option is to kill them.
Now my views on concealed carry permits, every handgun sold should come with a permit. If the person is "responsible" enough to purchase the gun, they should be allowed to carry it, hands down. The ability not to carry is simply dumb.
On to assault weapons and assault weapons bans. Unnecessary....the ban that is. A gun is a gun, one bullet kills just as simply as 30. While the amount can do more damage the same loss would be incurred. I feel that a 21 day waiting period should be issued on any/all assault weapons, but that they should be entirely legal. The reason I'd institute a heavy waiting period is simple; time to rationalize what you're buying.
Until the US wakes up and realizes that punishing the law biding will NEVER lead to success, we as a nation will constantly be on the losing end of the game.
