The awkward truth about Gun violence in America.

America is constantly told that it has a severe issue with gun violence. Statistically, this simply is not true. In the US in 2011 of the 311 million people, less than 0.00005% were murdered by a firearm. That is under 13,000 people and statistically - useless. And that is coming directly from the FBI, not some gun or anti-gun advocate (who routinely lie about the numbers). In Britain in 2011 just under 700 people out of 62 million were murdered, of that 58 by firearm (which are strictly regulated in Britain). Consider this, in the US in 2011 more than 700 people were murdered by people using their fists! Fists. The point is, the population of countries such as Britain is literally 5 times smaller than the US and US freedoms are far more progressive.

Firearms are not the issue, in fact, private citizens engaging a murderer during a mass killing average 2 people killed. Mass murders waiting on the police have an average of over 14 people killed - more honest, law abiding citizens armed equals a much safer land. It is a fact. The guns in America, all 300 million of the guns, are not the problem. Society has a problem in the US with lack of accountability and lack of mental health opportunities to weed out would be issues.

One question that always comes up is 'stricter gun laws' and 'magazine capacity', two entirely useless events. The vast majority of murders by firearm are done by individuals that do not legally own the firearm. And the time it takes to cycle a magazine is less than 1 second; and all mass shooters have reloaded.

The media loves to focus on guns because it looks brutal and resonates with nearly everyone. Media, films, videogames have made the visual of a firearm and the mystique incredible. However, the guns aren't the problem, never were. In fact, the private gun owner in America is what has enabled America to be the greatest and provide more freedom than any other Nation in the world.
