Doctors
I apologize upfront and immediately to all my friends and family that are doctors :)
What is the deal? Apparently I can diagnose most things for my kids and myself via webMD and the Internet, then when I go to a doctor they tell me exactly what I already knew. It seems the only thing I'm lacking is the knowledge about what medicine works for what.
When my children had Billiruben issues, I knew more of the facts than the pediatrician working with our children (and we saw about 5 different people). With me, I tore a hamstring and pinched a nerve (that was my diagnosis) I go to two different doctors, same thing. Ah, I think you've pinched a nerve and tore your hamstring. Ah, OK so how long till I'll be better, um not weeks..maybe months. Great, you went to school for that?
I'm not asking for something serious like a heart surgeon or neurologist or optometrist or something very specific like that, but general practitioners come on, be able to provide something more than what I can get OTC. I chalk it up to simply being frustrated now with my own injury because I can't get a definitive timeline in any form of when things will get better. And I can't seem to get any type of "pill" that removes the annoying and nagging pain.
I'm starting to realize why people get depression during an injury and why people find it easy to get addicted to pain pills. Thankfully, things are improving with my hamstring and nerve, but geez, everything I'm learning (for the most part, my friends excluded) is stuff I discovered on the Internet. So my question becomes, what is the deal? Is this what we should expect from the DRs?
Again, totally frustrated and blowing off steam. It is simply aggravating to sit around all day doing nothing for a person who likes to do things and nobody can seem to say "...alright after these steps you'll be improved and after this time line you'll be good to go". I'm sorry but "...just give it rest and time.." is not a medical diagnosis, my Grandmother can tell me that.
When the CareFirst letters come in I should say "deny payment" because I was told nothing new, simply given prescriptions. Thankfully though, the last Doc did give me a prescription that is working, slowly, but working. Just amazed that we live in an age where we can transplant a human heart but can't come up with an easy way to handle a torn muscle. Once more, I apologize to the Docs but I'm frustrated :)
OK an update:
So saw the doc again, finally he decided that maybe something stronger than Tylenol was necessary. Now that I have some pain meds the pain has gone from a 8 to about a 3....thank God.
Another Update:
So after a month of nothing, I still have had no help from my doctor, and he is now no longer my doctor. This guy didn't ask for one test on me, not a MRI not a CT not a X-Ray, nothing. In fact I found out today that part of his practice has doctors that focus on nerve and back issues and he never once asked one of them to look at me or consult with me. He has done nothing, he is utterly useless. So as I lay on my back for the 4th week thinking about this I wonder, why do people go to doctors? I mean for some things I guess they are useful: broken bones, surgery, etc. However what do they do the other 90% of the time, you know with real life injuries? So far I have diagnosed myself only to see a doctor with 40 years of experience who said "ok". I'm really astonished by the fact that this is the type of care I was given. Amazed actually. Talk about a useless doctor. So now to let you know, here is his name so you can make sure you never fall under his care: Frank Nisenfeld
