New Arizona legislation to stop illegal aliens
Lets discuss the AZ legislation that provides law enforcement in AZ the ability to call ICE or detain you if you're an illegal immigrant. Contrary to popular belief on the liberal and conservative front, the bill does not allow police to say "hey a Brown guy, lets check his papers". No, the 4th Amendment of the United States still applies. For those that need a refresher, the fourth amendment guarantees US Citizens the right against unreasonable search and seizure. This means that the government has to have a reasonable cause to question you. So if you're speeding down the road and a cop pulls you over in AZ, it is well within the officers means to say "show me identification". There is nothing illegal about that.
This non-sense that police will be running around simply questioning people for their "papers", as those that like to claim Nazism like to elude to, is exactly that..non-sense. This bill is a direct result of the Federal Government not doing the ONE thing it is responsible for, which is the protection and security of the United States of America. The job of the US Federal Government is to make sure US Citizens are not infringed upon by other governments. The Fed has dropped the ball here by focusing too much on social programs in the US and too little on protecting the sovereignty of the nation.
And in keeping with the Obama administration, the President has immediately called Arizonas citizens 'misguided', this is similar to his comments about how police acted 'stupidly' when detaining a professor last year. This divide that the President is creating between the states and Federal government is a problem. This issue arose when Bush was President and did things like wire-tapping by the federal government in states that hadn't given permission for it. Obama is doing the same thing but taking the route of essentially saying the states know less about legislating than the federal government. This condescending tone needs to end. The bulk of Obama's issues with the people arise from the fact that the citizens feel he isn't listening to them, simply telling 70% of the voting populace of a state that they are misguided, only cements this notion.
Now we have Mexico stating that this type of legislation causes "problems" with the relations of Mexico and the Untied States. Really, Mexico has an insane murder rate by the drug laded nation. Mexico has more problems than solutions and it is high time the United States stopped 'worrying' what Mexico thought of its immigration policy. The sheer fact that Mexico dares comment to the US about state legislation is ludicrous. And if the President of the United States even grants a moment of commentary to the Mexican concerns, he is simply highlighting the fact that he is completely out of touch with US Citizens.
It is truly a shame that we have to wait until the conclusion of 2010 elections to get a point across to Washington.
